Better Understanding an ESSA Requirement: SAMI PILOT

A Note from the Iowa Department of Education
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires all schools identified as Comprehensive or Targeted to engage in a needs assessment as they develop action plans in 2018-2019.  For Iowa, the Self-Assessment of MTSS Implementation, or SAMI, is that needs assessment.  This Spring, Iowa will conduct a pilot of the SAMI and use the results to revise it prior to statewide dissemination and use in Fall 2018.

There are two ways to be part of the Spring 2018 pilot:
  1. On Your Own.  You will need a SAMI Facilitator who will access online, self-paced modules that provide the information needed to facilitate a school leadership team to engage in discussions and complete the SAMI, and provide feedback on both the SAMI and the process.  Click for more information about being an On Your Own pilot site and to sign-up.

  2. Facilitated. You will need to attend a two-day Iowa Department of Education/Area Education Agency facilitated session on April 5-6 with your school leadership team, complete the SAMI and provide feedback on both the SAMI and the process.  Click for more information about being a Facilitated pilot site and to sign up.
